Heat-to-Fuel

Heat-to-Fuel is a project funded under Horizon 2020. The project is being implemented by 14 European partners who will be developing the next-generation biofuel technologies, thus promoting decarbonisation of the transport sector.

The partners of the Heat-to-Fuel project have over 100 years of combined expertise in biofuel production. They also incorporate state-of-the-art demonstration facilities and key industry and academic partners.

In 2013, the transport sector was responsible for 31.6% of total final energy consumption in Europe. Most of the energy-generating products used are imported fossil fuels such as diesel and kerosene. The decarbonisation of diesel and kerosene production as alternative energy sources is a very important factor in reducing CO2 emissions in this sector. Heat-to-Fuel is a leading research project focused on using the opportunity to develop efficient technologies and processes for the decarbonisation of fuels in the transport sector.

These main objectives swill be achieved through the integration of new technologies in the Heat-to-Fuel project and through innovative activities in the design, modelling, hardware and process development, testing and life cycle analysis of a fully integrated system.

At the end of the project, the knowledge acquired will allow technologies and processes to be expanded to the demonstration level of the next-generation sustainable biofuel production technologies.

The project, coordinated by the Austrian institution Güssing Energy Technologies, started in September 2017 and will last for four years.
